2024 AMA Hillclimb Grand Championship

August 2nd-4th, 2024 – Indianhead Motorcycle Club – Red Wing, MN

Registration is now open for the 2024 AMA Hillclimb Grand Championship, hosted by Indianhead M/C in Red Wing, MN. IMC is hosting this national championship event for the 6th time on it’s 75th anniversary, coinciding with the annual River City Days celebration. The last time we hosted this event, in 2017, we had 438 rider entries from all over the country, on 10 different brands of machines doing battle on our 300 foot, multi-stage hill.

Founded in 1948, and continuously hosting motorcycle hillclimb and hill drags events since 1949 in the same location, IMC is a proud member of the community. A non-profit organization, we regularly donate to area charities and organizations to support our friends and neighbors, and were awarded Special Congressional Recognition for our support of local charities. Red Wing literally grew up around our club grounds, and we’re now neighbors with the city athletic fields, and the Red Wing Aces baseball team – our events are held right behind the main baseball field where the Aces play. Now in our 75th year, our events – the only motorsports events held in the city – have truly become a Red Wing tradition.

This year we are making some changes to the typical event schedule, and we also have some exciting news to share… First, in order to accommodate the large number of anticipated entries (without turning anyone away due to a rider cap), we are going to begin competition on Friday with a few classes. That will give us a head start into the weekend…the classes that get their 1st run on Friday will get their 2nd run on Saturday, leaving us with a shorter program on Sunday – so that we can complete the event and get the awards ceremony done earlier in the day, which will be helpful to those with long drives ahead of them on Sunday night.

The tentative list of classes that will have their first runs on Friday afternoon will be:

Micro Mini, 65cc, Mini Jr., Mini Sr., Mini Girls, Super Mini, Open Mini, Vintage, 400 Stock and Open Stock

Please note that it is possible that this list will change pending actual registration numbers…the final list will be posted on the IMC website at least a week in advance of the event.

You may have noticed a couple classes in that list that you might not be familiar with. “Open Mini” is an additional minicycle class, open to all riders from 4 to 15 years old, and all minicycles up to 85cc. The Vintage class is open to all motorcycles with air-cooled engines that are no newer than 1984 models.

There will also be a Verticross class, featuring head-to-head competition in a bracket format on a specially-prepared course, as well as King of the Hill – a one-run shootout of the weekend’s fastest riders at the end of the regular program on Sunday.

We’re excited to also announce that we have 2 big giveaways at this event as a giant THANK YOU to our riders! All youth riders are automatically entered to win a brand-new Kawasaki KLX 110! And all non-youth riders are automatically entered to win a brand-new Kawasaki KLX 140! There is no additional cost for this drawing, and no one other than registered riders will be eligible – there is no way to purchase an entry in the drawing other than being a competitor in the event. The drawing for the 2 machines will be held during the awards ceremony on Sunday.

The event schedule will be as follows:
